Ziegler Cooper Architects Leads Texas High-Rise Apartment Design Boom

Jim Zemski, AIA

Since 2010, the State of Texas has seen a remarkable surge in high-rise apartment development, with 254 projects of seven stories or more either completed or under construction, according to data from CoStar. At the forefront of this architectural wave is Ziegler Cooper Architects (ZCA), designing 30 of these projects, and representing an impressive 12% of the total statewide activity.

This achievement places Ziegler Cooper far ahead of its peers—the next most prolific firm has completed just 12 projects. The firm’s dominance in the high-rise residential sector is a testament to its reputation for quality, efficiency, and thoughtful design.

Signature Projects Across Texas

ZCA’s portfolio includes some of the most notable developments in Texas:

  • 415 Colorado in Austin, a sleek and modern addition to the city’s skyline.

  • Southampton and Autry Park in Houston, both celebrated for their integration of luxury living with urban accessibility.

  • The Katy in Dallas, a standout project that blends contemporary aesthetics with community-focused amenities.

Each of these projects reflects the firm’s commitment to creating spaces that are not only visually striking but also highly functional and livable.

Expanding Beyond Texas

While ZCA has made a significant mark in Texas, its influence extends across the Sunbelt region, with projects in Denver, Atlanta, and Charlotte. This geographic expansion underscores the firm’s growing national reputation and its ability to adapt its design philosophy to diverse urban environments.

A Legacy of Excellence

With decades of consistent contributions to Texas’s urban landscape, ZCA has established itself as a leader in high-rise residential design. Our continued success is driven by a blend of architectural innovation, client collaboration, and a deep understanding of the product and evolving needs of the urban communities.

As urban centers across the Sunbelt continue to grow, Ziegler Cooper is well-positioned to shape the next generation of high-rise living.
