The CB Richard Ellis Group provides an array of diverse real estate services including office, industrial, retail, multi-family, hospitality and land. Ziegler Cooper was contracted to provide interior design services for two floors located on level 22 and 23 of Williams Tower, a signature building designed by Philip Johnson, located in the Galleria area of Houston, Texas.
The brokers wanted energy and synergy to be created by the ability to see each other in action and see the extents of the city through the full height glass at the perimeter. Therefore all panels were lowered and all enclosed offices have wall partitions. Since most of the floor would be open plan furniture it was important to provide a strong, yet simple architectural statement.
The designer´s biggest challenge was to design for the cultural shift from a traditional closed office environment to an open collaborative concept while maintaining an sleek open environment without being sterile. As a solution, visual interest was incorporated through the use of warmer wood tones, textured traditional pattern in carpets, warm stone and treatments such as dropped ceiling planes over circulation areas at the core. This offers a simple architectural ground in a very open and possibly visually intimidating space.
One of the more interesting features was the "family room" concept which has proved to be very successful. This is a gathering spot right at the landing of a remodeled monumental interconnecting stair. It houses a kitchen, a plasma screen area with soft occasional seating and built in banquets with tables for those that bring their lunch.
