Sonoma
Praised by the head of Houston´s planning department as "an excellent prototype for urban living", Sonoma totals 213 residential units, 60,000 square feet of retail, 43,000 square feet of offices, four restaurants, an urban grocer and parking for 989 cars. The project is planned for construction in two phases.
Sonoma´s white plaster façade combines over-scaled stone pilasters with small windows, old-fashioned balcony railings, and red tile roofs to evoke a romantic, European feel. Curved windows at three of the building corners distinguish the exterior and add drama. Residential units on levels five through seven are located on the perimeter and overlook the garden level which features a resort-style pool, landscaped courtyard and bow-shaped fitness center. In the middle of the elevation facing the plaza a sallyport with two grand staircases draws visitors up to an arched, two-story entry flanked by dining establishments and stores and the second level.
To complete the live-work-play experience, Sonoma´s two phases are linked by a brick-paved pedestrian plaza which creates a public domain for dining alfresco in the brick-paved square amidst fountains and tropical landscaping, weekend farmers markets, and other activities typical of an urban ´village square´.
